Twister In Expressway
I was supposed to write a post about “do not waste your blog traffic“, but I couldn’t resist myself not to upload the pictures that I’ve taken today.
My wife and I were on our way to a supermarket when we saw a twister being formed up in the sky. We already entered the expressway when we chanced upon it. Some road construction workers were all looking at it and suspended their works.
It’s good thing I brought my camera with me and here’s the first and 2nd shot upon entering the expressway:

I took these first two shots from the window of our car.
We decided to run away – yes, it’s a bit scary because we don’t have any idea on what will happen next. We’re not sure on what direction it’s going. I hit the gas and drove the car for a few kilometers when I told my wife that I want to take another set of pictures. I stopped the car just right after a huge billboard and a McDonald sign so it will give the shot a reference point. Here are the next 3 shots:

I should have called this “McDonald” Twister fries.
I took all these shots just past 10:30 AM but as you can see from the pictures, the weather is a bit strange. It’s hard to comprehend if it will rain or not. On the 2nd picture above, the road is wet but on my other shots, the weather is just fine except for that dark clouds surrounding the twister.
Luckily, I think, it didn’t hit the land. I’m not sure.

woah!! i wish i was there too (pero sana malayo ako sa kanya). nice shots! funny thing is, for some strange reason, i predicted a tornado like that will happen soon.
the reason why I hit on the gas – to run away from the place (para kasing nakakatakot) but I guess it didn’t gain strength anymore, so it didn’t turn into a tornado.
It’s definitely a nice photo shot bro. But generally speaking, a twister in the Philippines? Not really a pretty thought if we think hard about it as it is not normal to see these things here in our country.
I hope that your photos serve as a warning and eye-opener to every single one of us to take care more about the environment as these are signs that the world is degrading. The world would be able to survive these natural events as it would just continue to shape up and reshape our world but we won’t…

Oh my gosh really scary I thought it only happened in the States but it’s also happening here in Manila. I think PAGASA should really upgrade there systems to detect small tornado. Even that kind of a small tornado it can scare a lot of people that haven’t seen it in real life.

Tornadoes have been occurring frequently in the Philippines for the past two to three years. A waterspout was spotted in Manila Bay late 2006. Last year there was a huge waterspout in Cebu that was covered by TV Patrol, not to mention a few more in Samar, Cavite, and late last year in the vicinity of UP Los Banos. A few months ago a small tornado devastated UP Diliman and another one in Pampanga.
This is just the latest one. Good thing it got aborted. But apparently areas south of Metro Manila are in danger.

it’s in SLEX, the bridge on the first picture is the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. I’m facing South when I took the pictures.
Amazing shots. I haven’t encountered one that big in the Philippines. Maybe a few dust twisters.
I’ve seen little ones like it form in open fields around California, though.

just a month ago, a baby died in pampanga because of a twister..the baby’s swing was tied in their roof and then a twister came..destroyed the roof together with the baby..:(

Iba na talaga ang weather dahil sa global warming. Tsk tsk.
i think because of climate changes dulot ng pagwasak kay mother earth, nangyayari na dito saten although I’ve previously heard of provinces in south that had experienced tornado. buti na lang hindi naging level 2 or whatsover critical level yung tornado kundi it would be a big disaster in the highway.
The latest one was just a few weeks ago, in Bulacan this time. May isang buong building na nasira because of the weak tornado that made a landfall there. Kakatakot…

Twisters were unheard of around here until very recently. It doesn’t look like it hit land, otherwise it would have made the news diba? But it’s really scary.

If I am not wrong twister is not typical for Manila, something is wrong with the weather. The pictures are great, I use the first one as a wallpaper on my netbook.
