SEO: Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto Result
Pacquiao and Cotto’s fight is one of the best. A highly considered classic fight! One of the best boxing fight of all time. Both fighters gave all their strength, sweat and blood in the name of boxing. They did not fail their fans.
Cotto is too strong , but Pacquiao put on his dominating performance, utilizing his blazing speed and combination of power from both hands. Pacquiao knocked Cotto twice and turn his face into a river of blood. On the 55 seconds into the last round, Pacquiao stopped and defeated Cotto via TKO.
But, wait… this post is not about the fight. I want to discuss the tricks (not techniques) that other bloggers used not only to increase their SERP rank (Search Engine Result Page), but I want to specifically point out how they blatantly violated Adsense guidelines.
Here’s a (not-so) good example.
As you can see from this picture, the only text of this site are those in yellow ellipse. One of Adsense’s policies is for publisher not to “placed on any non-content-based page.” Content drives ads. I don’t know if you can call that page a “content-based” page, tell me.
Another example.
Just like the first example, the only content here is the one you can see on top and that’s it! It’s more like a sub-header than a content. I guess this 2nd example violated another Adsense policy – “not to : Placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads.” There’s nothing on that site except for Google adsense and Chitika ads on the left sidebar (Red ellipse).
And here’s a very tricky one.
Searching for “manny pacquiao vs miguel cotto live stream” on Google will lead you on this site. It’s actually on Google result page no. 1! Just like the previous examples, the only non-Google Adsense on this blog are those in yellow and blue ellipses. Those links on blue ellipse are very tricky. They really blend on the 3 ad links on top, but don’t you think this site is against Adsense policy – “publishers participating in the AdSense program may not: Format ads so that they become indistinguishable from other content on that page.”?
While the fight was going on for undercards, I’ve tried to check on some “pacquiao vs cotto free live stream” and I saw two sites that directly violating Adsense policy. One blog that I saw has a pop-up for survey that obscuring the page. Directly underneath the survey form are Adsense ads! “Google ads, search boxes or search results may not be:Obscured by elements on a page.”
The 2nd blog had a text to this effect ” Watch free live stream on this link” and below it are Adsense ad links! The text was committed with contempt.
. It blatantly violated the policy – “publishers participating in the AdSense program may not:Encourage users to click the Google ads using phrases such as “click the ads”, “support us”, “visit these links” or other similar language.”" (As of this writing, I think the site has been taken down already because I could not find it anymore!).
The authors of these “tricky” blogs that I discussed here ( these are actually not blogs but sites made for Adsense) know what they are doing. They are well versed on SEO. The know it at heart. They’re applying and practicing the best SEO techniques BUT they also inviting themselves to get out of Adsense program easily.
I’m not here to ridicule how they’re using SEO but to educate the readers to be careful on how they use the knowledge they are possessing.
Google Adsense provides a good income source for many bloggers. Sure there are a lot of gray areas on how to implement some of the rules, and open to interpretation but it is our responsibility to adhere to the program’s policy. You cannot accuse Google like you are arguing with your school principal using “I didn’t know it was wrong” lame excuse.
Whenever in doubt, use your best judgment to determine your site’s compliance. If you suspect that an implementation may violate the spirit of one of Adsense policies, I’d recommend you err on the side of caution and modify the implementation.
If you really don’t know what to do, ask Google Adsense staff, I assure you they are very helpful.

Interesting post Eric!
never saw it that way. Yes, these posts are tricky indeed!
Helpful tips Eric, Hope you could provide us how to earn in adsense too!
Yes, Eric, I’m interested also in learning how to maximize my ads to earn more at adsense. I haven’t even reached payout since the day I started blogging. Just a measly $34 , not enough to make payout. You could share with the Power50 group in our private email. Thanks.
They took down their site so they can make necessary actions like setting up another ads that would not violate adsense policy…
i’ve been to those sites. i would not dare do what they did, though it would be interesting to try the trick. too shady! hehe. but pinoys don’t just compete among themselves. some seo enthusiasts from other countries are doing it as well.
Good points, Eric. Love the screen shots. Jen, has a nice suggestion there in using the group email to educate the less savvy.
Hey! Very good points!
I was nervous when I began reading and trying to think if I inadvertedly violated any Adsense rules. Good thing I didn’t. lol.
Thanks!
This is not the first time I saw tricky and misleading sites like this. Others would even fool you with the ads as a navigation bar and some as article links. Thanks for the pointers, Eric
I’ll do that,Jhong . Watch out for it.
Sure,Ms. Jena . Just give me time to write it , you know I’m not a natural writer unlike you.
Well those are all MFA sites and if found Google will just kick them….
Thanks for your lovely post…but I liked the boxing part more…..lol
Thanks
TC
Too many people are attempting to game the AdSense system, the odd thing is Google is supposed to be able to detect and prevent more than 3 AdSense ads on a single page, so clearly they are using multiple ID’s and publishers or some other away around it.
These are the tricks of the trade that we would like to avoid, well, there are Dos and Don’ts, so we better follow them.
Very informative post, Eric, I hope to learn from the tutorial you will set up soon.

“publishers participating in the AdSense program may not:Encourage users to click the Google ads using phrases such as “click the ads”, “support us”, “visit these links” or other similar language.”
I remember there was a time when this rule wasn’t enforced. Many sites in fact use the “Support us” phrase before and I think I might have been guilty of that on one occasion too.
“publishers participating in the AdSense program may not: Format ads so that they become indistinguishable from other content on that page.”
Same with this one. It was all to easy to blend your ads before with your content.
But the hard lesson is that if you are caught violating, you’re banned for life! So be a good publisher and keep in mind all the rules!
Very relevant observation, indeed, my friend. What’s the penalty for this violation?
Yes, me too, I’m interested to know how to maximize my ads earnings…without violating Adsense protocols!!
I got traffic when i posted about How I won P10k on Manny’s Victory Over Cotto But not on SE..ahahaha..
“What’s the penalty for this violation?”
Well like I said, you’re banned for life. Your account will get closed and all your earnings will be gone. Your name and website will be blacklisted in the AdSense program. You can still probably try applying under another person’s name but it will have to be for a completely new website. But this sucks so it’s best to avoid from ever having this experience by being a responsible publisher.
I just had time to read this post now. Interesting, Eric. I have yet to learn from you in SEO. Keep this type of post coming.:-)
SEO and MFA sites still work until now (I guess). It is a matter of learning when to rake earnings and when to turn it off.
Just like in stocks trading, you should know your limits when to stop and when to sell.
Greed sometimes is the culprit of getting banned in Adsense. Aruuuu!
