Are You Suffering From G.A.S.S.?
Lately, I’ve been suffering from this syndrome. Unfortunately, I guess there’s no cure for it. If there is, I will vehemently avoid the medication.
Even when I’m in public places (it’s a no-no) , I can’t control myself not to suffer this contagious disease. I’ll always look for the opportunity to do it.
Before you think of any thing gross, let me clear myself.
GASS is a phenomenon that can hit any members of the Adsense Family. You’ve got to be a member in order for you to suffer this addictive syndrome.
GASS is the abbreviation of Google AdSense Stats Syndrome. According to Google Adsense Insider, ” The primary sign of affliction is the compulsive need to check AdSense stats every 15 minutes or so to see how much you’ve earned since your prior login.”
This compulsive disorder will sometimes bring uncontrolled urge for the patient to check their accounts even multiple an hour!
“Sufferers face strong withdrawal when separated from a PC with Internet access and have been known to experience mild abdominal discomfort and general irritability”, according to Rob, AdSense Product Marketing.
In order to minimize the negative effect of this syndrome to all Adsense family members, please let it be known that reports are generally updated every 15 to 30 minutes, but there can sometimes be a delay of up to 24 hours.
Sometimes when you see a “no data available” , don’t rush to your eye doctor. Your eyes are perfectly normal and not making a tricks on you. It can take up to 24 hours for Adsense “robo-accountant-auditor-doctor” to fully verify the internal logs and finalize your reports — as a result, you may sometimes see changes in your earnings during the course of the day.

I used to check the stats every 30 minutes or so. I’m back to only checking two or three times a day now. There is also a nice firefox add-on that shows your AdSense stats right in your firefox status bar and lets you get to your AdSense page with a single click.

Haha, the GASS syndrome… I was definitely one of those that was affected by this syndrome in the beginning. I can remember it vividly and at one point I even said that AdSense is crap, LOL. Anyway, I did find a cure and I no longer log in to verify my earnings too often. Now I will do it every other day just to check.

When I had Adsense, I had the same habit. But my account was suspended earlier in the year, and I don’t check my stats on things nearly as much now.

Definitely i am suffering from those signs you mentioned. I usually check adsense 10x a day! hehe
I think people should check adsense stats every 30 minutes with clear purpose: further adsense optimization.
By tracking your adsense channels continuously, you can finetune your adsense. For example: Suppose normally, you get on average 40cent per click. Then during certain time, you suddenly get a paltry 1 cent per click for 3-4 hours, then you know there is something need to be done. By doing some secret action ( only few people know this secret after months of trial/experimentation), you can bring back your adsense income back to 40 cent per click on the next 3 hour. If you don’t do anything, then your whole day income will be much less. That’s what I call “proactive action”.
But if you continuously check your adsense stats without clear purpose and action, then you fall into GASS syndrome.
Very funny post! I don’t use adsense but I suffer from a similar syndrome where I check my blog stats too often. I’m too tired to come up with something funny. I’ll leave that for you
I check my Adsense, CPA and traffic stats while eating a snack before heading to bed.
@Learning Corner…That’s an interesting concept but also one where, in my opinion, you’re bound to lose more then you gain. There’s too many other things that need doing to be interrupting your day every thirty minutes in the hope to make a few more pennies.
It’s said that every time you do something like checking your email it costs you at least fifteen minutes in lost productivity, not counting the time reading the email. So, in an eight hour day doing what you suggest half of the day would be lost.
